Train Sunday

We went into Toys R Us on saturday and found out that the Cars Wood Collection was being discontinued. We love these toys because they fit with the standard train sets, and we already have a ton of track pieces. We've been buying these cars for like a year now, whenever we see a cool one or they go on sale, and then save them for a holiday or a reward. Well, since we knew we wouldn't be able to find them anymore (and they were all 40% off), we spent all day on Saturday driving around to different Toys R Us stores to find all the sets we still wanted. We finally hit the jackpot at one store that was not cleaned out yet. So after all that hard work, we built an extensive track with our new fun toys.

The track stayed up for a few days and the boys had a ball playing with it.

Luke was like a Babyzilla, knocking down pieces of track every time he moved. He needs a wider-spread track.

This one is one of our new scores: Tow Mater's Yard. Wills had Mater catching the bad cars and putting them in jail. I think it's a little crowded in there.

Don't worry, we only gave the boys a couple and the rest are saved for birthdays or good boys.

Nutella Rice Krispie Treats

I found this recipe for Nutella Rice Krispie Treats on Pinterest. I have had a jar of Nutella sitting in my pantry for like a year because I didn't know what to do with it, so I tried these. They tasted dang good, but they didn't look at all like they are supposed to. I have been told that could have been from me using cheapie rice krispies intead of the name brand, so next time I won't go cheap.

They did not last very long!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I wish I remembered to take a picture of all of us wearing green but I didn't. So here is a picture of what we ate for breakfast. Luke makes me put food coloring in waffles every time I make them, so this wasn't too different from how we eat waffles anyway. In honor of St. Patrick day, we did rainbow waffles.

Eric didn't understand why rainbows are in honor of St. Patrick's day, but everyone else in the world gets it, right?

What Boys Are Watching

(This is Part Two. Part One is here.)

Let's start with the good shows.

Jackie Chan Adventures is a show that I used to watch when I was too old to watch cartoons. The characters are funny, the plot has a good arc through the season, and your kids will learn to say things like, "Ai-yaaa!" which I think is Chinese.

Spectacular Spiderman is the best spiderman show there is. I have watched them all, and the rest are terrible. This show is no longer on Netflix, but you can buy the first season on DVD, and the second season was never released. I found a copy online from Ireland that I bought to give it to Wills on his birthday, but first I have to transfer it to DVD format that will play in the US. It's worth it for this show.

Fraggle Rock is another show that we both used to watch when we were little. It's not the best, but there are some cute toons and at least it's not potty humor like a lot of shows now are.

And now, here are two shows that I recommend you never let you kids watch, because then they will never know they exist, and they won't ever ask you to watch. The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, and The Karate Kid. Both are from the 80s, and they are so terrible there are no words. If you don't believe me, you can check them out on Youtube.

Family Reunion 2011

I just realized when looking in some old draft posts that I never posted these pictures from the family reunion in August. So without further ado, here ya go.

The boys favorite thing to do is go down to the river and throw rocks in the water.

You should not hold peanut butter crackers under you arm while walking in hot Idaho, or you will end up with an unwanted cracker wrapper mark on your arm.

This is Wills. Kinda reminds me of this lovely self portrait, but with a shirt on.

Some things I want to remember about our trip this year:

Instead of bringing a tent, we decided to stay in Eric's parent's trailer. When we got out a black sleeping bag for Wills, he said, "Don't put me in the trash!"

He would talk about the sun being up or down to decide if we needed to be awake or asleep. Every morning, the second he woke up he would announce, "The sun's up!"

On the drive home, he noticed a lot of mountains with letters on them, and he told us there needed to be letters on this mountain that say camping and that mountain that say home.

Wills had his own little bed and Luke slept in the big bed with us. In the middle of the night, I vaguely remember him rolling all around and pushing against the side of the tent trailer. Then all of a sudden, he started crying really loudly, and Eric calmed him down and we all went back to sleep. In the morning, I found out that the edge of the tent trailer is not actually attached to the bed, just held in place by elastic, and with Luke pushing against the side, he actually fell OUT of the trailer onto the ground. Eric just reached his arm through the hole and dragged Luke back up through the hole into the bed again.

Barenaked Ladies!

Danny, Kylee, Eric and I went to Wendover for a Barenaked Ladies concert! They are so great. We laughed about how we want to be the nerdy people who follow around the country the bands that were famous when we were in high school. I would do it for BNL.

It was pretty funny to us how many people younger than us didn't know who they are. They sang all the songs that I was hoping to hear, and some I didn't realize were them. Yay concerts!

(I never know what to write. I like pictures a lot better. So I am just going to sound nerdy here, and I stole a picture off of the internet for a visual.)

March Houses: St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick's Day is not a day I decorate a lot for, but I love the way these houses turned out! I think every month, I say these are my new favorites, and that is true again! Here is the original pin from the lovely Whimsy Studios, and here are mine.

Sorry if the pictures are a bit fuzzy. I have been having trouble with my camera and I am blind as an old woman, so this is as good as it gets.

In case you want to revisit the old ones, here are here are July, August, September, October, November, I forgot to take a picture of December and I never did January, and February.

What We're Watching

This might be boring for you, but I'm going to write about it anyway. We haven't paid for cable for at least five years now, so all of these shows are from Netflix on the Wii.

White Collar is an awesome show. Eric's favorite kind of show is crime/mystery, and this one is suspenseful and funny at the same time. Plus our neighbor told me he thought Eric looks just like the main guy (in this picture), so Eric says goofy things about how good looking he is when we watch it. Dork.

Lost started out really great in the first couple seasons, and it is getting pretty weird. We actually haven't finished this one yet because Eric has been going out of town too much for work and I've been waiting for him so we can watch it together. I'll let you know how it ends, unless everyone else saw it six years ago.

Better Off Ted is another one recommended to me by the neighbor and we must have pretty similar taste in TV. This one is hilarious. I loved it; I thought it was similar to my all time fave, Arrested Development. Too bad there were only two short seasons.

And last, something I should have started watching a while ago, Downton Abbey. I love it! I usually go for the witty comedies, but I love a good romantic drama too. Especially if they are English and they wear pretty clothes. And you gotta love that it's on PBS so when I get caught up, I could watch it on the regular schedule! (If I can bring myself to actually watch commercials.)

I'll do some kids shows on another post so this doesn't get super long.

Pajama Monsters

I found this pattern on Pinterest for pajama monsters from Sew Fearless. The have zippered mouths so you can put your pajamas in them in the morning, and then they give them back at night!

I'm glad I did them with the minkee fabric. I think that gives them a "real stuffed animal" look, plus they are so nice to hug.

I let the boys pick out their own colors. Obviously, William's favorite color is red and I think the only color Luke knows really well is orange. Which is funny to me because that was the first color Will learned too.

It was a pretty simple pattern, and easy to understand, but I did make some adjustments on the second one that made it better. First of all, you don't need a yard of the main fabric at all. A half yard should do fine, I have tons of leftover. Second, the feet are too big and the legs too poofy. On my second one, I cut the soles a little more foot-shaped, and I cut much less fabric for the legs. By the way, so you can tell in the pictures, the orange one was first and the red one is a little improved.

Overall, they turned out great and the boys love them! Maybe these will help them keep their room clean... but I doubt it.
