Luke's 4th Birthday

Luke wanted a Halloween birthday this year because he couldn't get enough of Halloween! Plus he loves candy, so there you are.

He asked everybody to dress up, and all the kids did at least. Here is the best group shot I got:

Luke was thrilled with all his presents. You can kinda see Eric's costume here. He was Prince Eric.

We did some fun spooky foods and sandwiches, and a graveyard cake.

The boys got a kick out of Grandma Coles dressed up as a pumpkin, and we played that party game where you have to grab a paper bag with your mouth while standing on one foot. That is what she is doing right here.

Happy Birthday Little Luke!

Christmas Cards

So... I intended to make a Christmas card this year. I even went so far as to take a bunch of cute pictures in the snow, and loaded them on my computer. That was all on December 7th! I was on the ball! But then, as you know, stuff happens and they never made it public. So here they are now for you! No words still, but look how cute these pictures are!

Merry Christmas from the Coles Family! Let's all pretend this came in the mail... two months ago.

Christmas 2013

Turns out, this year I was a bad mom, and took hardly any pictures at all of Christmas. Here's what I got for ya:

I wanted some glowing tree pictures, which I think turned out pretty well.

Christmas morning, this is what we saw from Santa:

And here is the obligatory shot of the kid(s) waiting on the stairs. It is super blurry and I don't know where Luke is. I have no excuses.

My new favorite pictures of Luke

I took these pictures of Luke a my cousin's wedding this past weekend, and love it! He's such a goofball, and loves "cheesing" for the camera.

So everyone always says that Will looks like Eric, but I don't think Luke looks like me. He must just be a good mix. What do you think?

Luke's Haircut

Luke thought his hair was getting a little too long, so he decided he needed to cut it to keep it out of his eyes. And then Wills very helpfully cut a chunk out of the back too.

You can kinda see the back too in this picture, but the front is very noticeable. Those scissors are well hidden now.

Mater Operation

We sometimes like to buy new games when Eric goes out of town as a treat for being left at home. We bought this Operation game that is Mater from Cars, and the boys totally don't get the concept of the "surgery", but they think it is hilarious to buzz him.

Happy Easter

We did our neighborhood egg hunt on Saturday again this year. The boys both loaded up on lots of goodies.

And of course the Easter Bunny visited our house and hid lots more treats. The boys got really into the hunt.

Luke immediately opened all his eggs he found and sorted the candy into piles. And then ate as much as he could before I stopped him.

This Is How Luke Plays in the Sandbox

Too tired to sit up, but he loves the sandbox so much!

What Boys Are Watching

(This is Part Two. Part One is here.)

Let's start with the good shows.

Jackie Chan Adventures is a show that I used to watch when I was too old to watch cartoons. The characters are funny, the plot has a good arc through the season, and your kids will learn to say things like, "Ai-yaaa!" which I think is Chinese.

Spectacular Spiderman is the best spiderman show there is. I have watched them all, and the rest are terrible. This show is no longer on Netflix, but you can buy the first season on DVD, and the second season was never released. I found a copy online from Ireland that I bought to give it to Wills on his birthday, but first I have to transfer it to DVD format that will play in the US. It's worth it for this show.

Fraggle Rock is another show that we both used to watch when we were little. It's not the best, but there are some cute toons and at least it's not potty humor like a lot of shows now are.

And now, here are two shows that I recommend you never let you kids watch, because then they will never know they exist, and they won't ever ask you to watch. The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, and The Karate Kid. Both are from the 80s, and they are so terrible there are no words. If you don't believe me, you can check them out on Youtube.

Pajama Monsters

I found this pattern on Pinterest for pajama monsters from Sew Fearless. The have zippered mouths so you can put your pajamas in them in the morning, and then they give them back at night!

I'm glad I did them with the minkee fabric. I think that gives them a "real stuffed animal" look, plus they are so nice to hug.

I let the boys pick out their own colors. Obviously, William's favorite color is red and I think the only color Luke knows really well is orange. Which is funny to me because that was the first color Will learned too.

It was a pretty simple pattern, and easy to understand, but I did make some adjustments on the second one that made it better. First of all, you don't need a yard of the main fabric at all. A half yard should do fine, I have tons of leftover. Second, the feet are too big and the legs too poofy. On my second one, I cut the soles a little more foot-shaped, and I cut much less fabric for the legs. By the way, so you can tell in the pictures, the orange one was first and the red one is a little improved.

Overall, they turned out great and the boys love them! Maybe these will help them keep their room clean... but I doubt it.

I Have No Good Title For This Post

Since it has been a few weeks since I posted anything but Pinterest Challenge Friday, here are a few random pictures to hold over anyone who doesn't care what I make and comes here for cute pictures.

Yet another silly sleep pose, this time courtesy of Wills.

I gave the boys ham, cheese and crackers for lunch one day, kind of a homemade lunchable. Luke ignored the ham and crackers and made himself a giant cheese cube.

This is as good as it gets for now. I have been trying to make some new things for the shop, and have been slacking on Mom-taking-pictures duty. I'll be back later with more.

Luke Sayings

Here are Luke's sayings from the past long time! Some of these older ones he doesn't do as much any more.

Luke will sit on your lap every time you are on the ground with a lap free. He is very lovey when he wants to be. With Luke, he has to be in the mood for everything.

He always falls asleep sideways on his pillow.

He loves books. Every night when I peek at them in bed after work, Luke is holding a couple books asleep.

Luke gets easily frustrated when things don't go his way. One time he was trying to put a box on his head, and it was slightly too small. He was so mad and was trying so hard. Finally he broke the seam on one side and it fit on his head, and he was happy. He wore that box the rest of the night. Which I just realized, I already blogged about here.

He loves to play in anything that makes a giant mess: sandbox, dirt, ashes from the fire pit, big bag of flour in the pantry... He thinks the flour is snow.

He is always sneaking, thinking of what he can do next that would be bad. He get this really mischievous look too, so you know it's coming.

Luke calls Eric "Home". Eric's theory is that whenever Eric came home from work, he would say, "Dad is home!" and that is like saying "Dad is Batman!". Luke knows who Dad is, he just thinks his name is Home.

He is a really good talker for how young he is. And he is pretty small for his age, so he looks like a tiny smarty-pants. Some of the really funny things he says all the time are "whatcha doin", "open mine", me (at the end of everything, like "see it me", "stinky me"), and "what you think you are doing?"

He can't pronounce the "th" sound, and so words like "teeth" and "bath" sound like "teeps" and "baps". And "kiss" sounds like "kips", but I'm not sure why on that one.

One time, he was mad at me for something (don't remember what), and he went and told Eric, "Mom did this to me."

He repeats everything you say, so sometimes it's hard to tell if he even knows what he is talking about.

He talks in complete sentences, like if you ask him, "What's your name?" he will say, "Name, Luke".

He is OBSESSED with candy! I think he whole life revolves around how he can get more candy. His favorite is "emmsemms". He's pretty sneaky about it too.

He can be bossy. If he doesn't like what you are wearing, he will tell you, "Take that off!", or he will tell you "Stop that!" of you are doing something he doesn't like. He always says it with a goofy smile, so it doesn't sound mean.
